The device uses gears to pull and push on the blind chains. The device is driven by a servo with the end stop removed, creating a compact geared motor. As the built-in potentiometer was removed to enable the continuous range of motion required, another form of indexing is needed. This is done by a digital rotary encoder which outputs asimple integer valve. It is all controlled using an IR remote like that one used on a TV.
We used an Arduino Pro Micro to allow for a very small footprint in the device.
